What is Celexa Withdrawal?

Celexa is an antidepressant and belongs to the category of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It is used to treat depression and affects the neurotransmitter – serotonin, by increasing serotonin in the body by reducing its absorption. This causes a decrease in the symptoms of depression and improves mood.

Patients are assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. Patient’s medical background is checked thoroughly to decide on the most effective treatment plan.
  2. Enquiries are made about the dosage. Details of the frequency in which the drugs were consumed are an important factor.
  3. Level of dependence on the drug is established.
  4. Tests are administered to understand the underlying factors behind the effect of the drug on the mind and body.

Treatment

  • Stopping celexa gradually
  • Counseling or group talks for motivation
  • Eat fresh vegetables & fruits and drink water in large amounts to flush out toxins
  • Motivational enhancement therapy, experimental therapy, holistic therapy, etc. is also used

Prevention

  • Avoid the medication apart from the dosage and time that they are prescribed
  • In case of dependency on the medication, taper the use instead of quitting its use suddenly
  • Use alternatives instead of celexa if a pattern of dependence is observed

How long does it take for the body to detox from celexa?

Generally, it takes about 3 months for the body to detox from celexa. It is observed that the first few weeks of the withdrawal process are the most challenging and patients may often feel discouraged and there are chances of relapse too. However, the time taken for detoxification also depends on the individual as everyone’s body reacts differently to different medication.
